A buggy whip is a safety flag pole fitted to a light vehicle operating on a mine site or construction site. It raises a high-visibility flag above the roofline of the vehicle so it can be seen by operators of larger machinery. VSF buggy whips are available with full-pole LED illumination for night and low-visibility conditions.
LED safety flags have lights embedded along the full length of the pole for visibility in dark or low-light conditions, including underground mines, early morning and night shifts. Non-LED safety flags use a high-visibility orange reflective X mesh flag for day-shift operations and do not require a power connection.
VSF manufactures safety flags and buggy whips in lengths from 0.6 metres to 3 metres. Custom lengths outside this range are available on request — contact us for a quote.
All VSF LED buggy whips are multivolt 12V and 24V, making them compatible with light vehicles, trucks and heavy equipment without needing separate models.
VSF offers quick release, spring base (small, medium and large), fold-down anti-rotation, bolt-on and magnetic base options. All use standard ½ inch BSW thread and are interchangeable across the full VSF range.
VSF LED buggy whips are available in red, blue, green, amber and white. Red is the most common for mine-site compliance. Custom colour combinations are available on request.
Yes. VSF products are specified and used on BHP, Rio Tinto, Glencore and Fortescue mine sites across Australia and globally. All products are custom manufactured to meet Australian mine-site safety standards.
Most Australian mine sites require the flag pole to stand between 3.2m and 4.2m from the ground to the top of the flag. The exact height varies by site and vehicle type. Always confirm with your site HSE team or contractor management plan before purchasing.
Safety flag poles are made from flexible fibreglass and will bend and whip at higher speeds. To avoid damage to the vehicle or pole, do not drive at speeds faster than 60km/hr when the pole is attached. If you need to travel at higher speeds, use a quick release base so the pole can be detached easily.
